FM Working Group
We are a national grant-maker working in partnership with the Ewing Foundation. We support projects from registered charities working with deaf children and young people.
The group comprises representatives from manufacturers of FM systems, cochlear implants and hearing aids; the Modernising Children’s Hearing Aid Services team; national organisations and voluntary agencies and practitioners in education, audiology and cochlear implant services. The Ewing Foundation has been a member since the group’s formation in 2004.
- improve mutual sharing of information
- promote joint working and good practice
- encourage developments in the field of personal FM technology
Personal FM systems, their development and use, had long been a focus for discussion within the group. Although systems were widely used and subject to rapidly changing technology there were no published guidelines or recommendations for good practice in the UK. So it was decided to publish a set of Quality Standards intended to progress both understanding and use of personal FM systems for the benefit of deaf children.
His driving passion was for deaf children to fulfil their academic and personal potential through effective auditory-oral education. These scholarships bear his name and share the same goal.
As part of the working group, the NDCS was committed to financing and producing the final publication. Ewing Foundation Technicians and Consultants contributed both technical content and editorial time to realise the end result: a hard copy publication of Quality Standards for the use of personal FM systems and a complementary CD of good practice.
