Remembering Ken

We are deeply saddened to report that our dear friend and colleague Ken Higgins has passed away following a long illness. During his career with Ewing, Ken made a huge difference to teachers and their deaf pupils, helping hundreds to get the right audiological support at school. Ken retired in 2017 after 29 years of kind and dedicated service, and many years of friendship too.

Writing in our sixtieth anniversary book, Ken described his time with us:

‘I came to the Ewing Foundation in 1988 having absolutely no knowledge whatsoever of deafness, deaf people, or any equipment that might be used, so my early days were a very steep learning curve indeed… I needn’t have worried, for within a very short time, I realised that it had been the best career change I could possibly ever have made. I had plenty of scope, to quote Alan Huntington (a Ewing colleague), to ‘plough my own furrow’ and develop my role into the most interesting, rewarding occupation I could have imagined.’

Thank you, Ken. We send our condolences to Ken’s wife and his family.
