Autistic Spectrum Condition and deafness

Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and deafness – our new offer for the 2024/25  academic year

From September 2024, our team of Education Advisors will be offering the following training options for professionals working with deaf children and young people with ASC.

Deafness and Autism Spectrum Condition networking group

This group was relaunched in 2023 and is open to any professional working with deaf children and young people. We meet each term for an hour on TEAMs. The group provides a platform for sharing good practice, asking questions, discussing concerns and supporting each other in our professional roles. All are very welcome.

Social Stories webinar

Social Stories were created by Carol Gray in 1991 for children, young people and adults with ASC to develop greater social understanding. They are used widely and we are offering a face-to-face session that will look in more detail at why Social Stories can help children with ASC, how we can use Social Stories with our own children and young people, and how we might write and deliver a Social Story for an individual child for a specific social situation.

ASC and deafness – a half-day online conference

We would like to offer a half-day online conference that will look at sessions on a variety of topics around ASC and deafness. Sessions will be run by professionals in the field of deafness and ASC. Topics we are currently looking to offer may include:

  • Support strategies for deaf children and young people with ASC
  • Establishing effective multi-agency
  • Working with children and young people pre- and post-diagnosis of ASC
  • Managing Sensory Processing needs
  • Supporting children and young people with ASC with their technology

More information to follow for all of these events. Please email info@ewing-foundation.org.uk if you would like to be notified when further information is released.
