EwingOur Education Advisor Katy Mitchell has produced a helpful and practical guide for families and early year practitioners to support young children with a hearing loss.
‘Hearing to Succeed and Achieve’ provides clear information on why so many young children have a hearing loss and the impact this has on their ability to listen to speech. The guide explores possible interventions and offers simple steps and tips, so that a young child with a hearing loss can succeed in developing speech and language and achieve their potential.

Hearing to Succeed and Achieve includes information about otitis media with effusion (commonly known as glue ear), and the launch of the document coincides with the release of updated guidance from NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) on the condition. Hearing to Succeed and Achieve is one of the resources signposted by NICE in their guidance, which was released at the end of August 2023.
Hearing to Succeed and Achieve also looks at other organisations that can provide information on glue ear. These include Glue Ear Together, a parent-led charity, supported by Ewing Foundation’s grant making partner Ovingdean Hall Foundation.
