Many congratulations to our five Con Powell Memorial Scholars who have all recently become Qualified Teachers of the Deaf (QToDs).
Our Ewing Foundation team were delighted to support the students during their studies. They have all shown great dedication during these challenging times, and, in recognition of their achievements, their Ewing mentors organised an online ceremony where the new QToDs were presented with certificates of congratulations.
‘Thank you for organising this evening,’ said one scholar. ‘I have come away feeling very proud and amazed at what I have accomplished. Thank you for all your support.’
Each year, our partner, grant maker Ovingdean Hall Foundation, offers up to five scholarships per year for teachers to train to become QToDs. The scholarships are managed by The British Association of Teachers of the Deaf (BATOD) and aimed at teachers whose Local Authorities are not obliged to support them financially. They are named in honour of Con Powell, BATOD’s first President and the Ewing Foundation’s first Chief Executive Officer.
This year’s Con Powell Memorial Scholarships are open until 8 April 2022. Find out more.
